All objects by NEC

Founded in 1899 (that's a long time ago! :)) as Nippon Electric Company. They started with battery switchboards and telephone sets. It was not until 1980 when NEC made it's digital signal processor.

They made 8088 compatible chips in the late 80'ies. A known one was the V20 which runs slightly faster and cooler than Intel's 8088. NEC also made a V30 (8086 equivalent). The V40 is compatible with the V20 but is 16-bit internal (8-bit external) and has a different packaging.

NEC also made the first PowerVR chips which has been the chip to compete with the 3Dfx Voodoo Graphics chipset.
