SiS stands for Silicon Integrated Systems and was founded in 1987. They made motherboard chipsets and eventually entered the budget market to produce solutions with mainboard chipset and video together (SiS 5596, 5598 and 530). SiS continued to manufacture chipsets for socket 478, 462, 775, 754, 940, 939 and AM3.

Besides integrated and low-end VGA, SiS tried to create 3D cards (Xabre series) but failed to compete with ATI and nVidia. The technology was later bought by XGI and used in the Volari V5/V8 and VolariDUO series.
