Generally any CL-GD542x wil perform well enough under DOS with a midrange 486DX2. The GD5424 is no exception; it falls behind on X-Vesa reads and shifting ASCII characters on screen compared to for instance S3-based VLB cards. However differences with Wolfenstein 3D aren't huge and Doom runs practically identical.
I haven't tested Windows 3.11 but I can imagine that the Cirrus Logic will fall behind in processing Windows API calls. > Read more
