Intel 'Yorkfield'
The Q9550 is based on the Yorkfield-core; a new tick-cycle to the Kentsfield core. Yorkfield is made with a 45nm manufacturing process and has 12MB L2 cache in total. It also features new SSE4.1 instructions. At last but not least Intel increased the front-side-bus to 333MHz (QDR1333).
Yorkfield was released in March 15th of 2008 while it should have been released in January 2008. Initial rumors pointed to errors in the new chip but later reports claimed that the delay was necessarry to ensure compatibility with 4-layer PCB's of many motherboard manufacturers. > Read more
