S3 used to have good 2D-chips that ran (2D) DOS games very well in terms of performance and compatibility. Once the race of 3D-accelerators started, S3 couldn't keep up. These 'S3 Trio3D' cards didn't really do 3D; it ran slow with ugly dithering and sprites not displayed properly. Nevertheless it was a good 2D-card to pair up with a Voodoo 2 :). > Read more

This card is equipped with the S3 Trio3D/2X (86C368) chip. 3D-graphics isn't S3 strongest point, but 2D-wise it's fine. The chip on this particular card has been made in mid-2000 so I reckon this card was installed in a budget system. Back in 2000 the Voodoo4 and 5, Radeon and GeForce 2 were top-of-the-line and all three manufacturers had proper budget (especially 3dfx and nVidia) cards available that can outrun the S3 Trio3D with ease if you're interested in 3D. A system with the S3 Trio3D will be complete with a Voodoo2 :). > Read more
