Not a bad CPU to have in late 2009. 12 cores that are based on the K10-core (read: Phenom II-performance) that work together to get the job done. I think that the 12-core Opteron's is a bit underrated. Of course it would've been nice it the CPU had a tad more single-core performance but it's high core count makes up for something.
I have benchmarked it but keep in mind that my X89 motherboard runs with single-channel memory which impairs performance; especially on high core-count CPU's. > Read more
Identical to my other AMD Opteron 6136 but two and a half year newer.
AMD launched their Mangy-Cours CPU-line on March 29, 2010. According to the production date of my other Opteron 6136 (44th week of 2009 they started producing production versions half a year in advance. The Opteron Magny-Cours was part of AMD's flagship line for about 2 years until the Opteron 'Zurich' core appeared. > Read more
The Opteron 6100-series are based on the 45nm Magny-Cours and are available in 8-core and 12-core configurations. Most models are released on March 29, 2010 which faster models following in early 2011.
Compared to normal x86 CPU's these Opterons are physically huge!
I have two of these samples which run at 1.6GHz. Production models (the high-efficiency models) start from 1.8GHz. For my CPU I guessed the production date of 0938. Looking at announcements, roadmaps and preliminary data this date seems plausible. > Read more
