Version: 1.9 Shareware
Doom is a classic DOS game. Back in 1993 this caused a revolution in the 3D-shooter world! Because it's an old benchmark it's suitable to measure the performance of 486 CPU's. Luckily Doom scales up quite well so you can easily use it to benchmark up to fast Pentium, Cyrix 6x86 or AMD K6 CPU's. Be sure to keep in mind the graphic card will play an important role so use a card with fast DOS performance like a Matrix Millenium II PCI or Voodoo3 2000/3000 PCI.
My benchmark method
To benchmark Doom I used the shareware version (Doom 1.9S) and left every option alone. This means I didn't change the window to maximum screen! After installing the game use the following command to initiate the benchmark: 'doom -timedemo demo3'.It will give you a message that 'demo3.lmp' wasn't found but this is no problem as demo3 is built-in the Doom iWAD. After the benchmark finished it will give you the score in realticks.
To convert this to FPS use 35*2134 / realticks. In case of 1651 realticks this will be 45,24 FPS.
Be sure the gameticks are 2134. If not you probably have the wrong version.
The CPU-benchmarks are done with a SiS6326 PCI card.
