An open-source compression tool that can handle all sorts of filetypes (.ZIP, .RAR, .GZ etc) but also uses it's own .7z file-format. It also incorporates a little benchmark to measure how fast a CPU would be with 7-Zip algorithms.
I use this benchmark for CPU's with a minimum of two cores. Because this benchmark easily utilizes quad-core or octa-core systems, I'll use it for the faster/newer CPU's. The scores are total average MIPS of the compression test.
To run the benchmark, open a command prompt and start '7za.exe b'. 7-Zip will start a series of calculations. The score I measure is the 'Avr' (average) from the compression test.
